PART III - Building a Better Pirate!
The last four mini-chapters help to conclude this amazing text. Each of these chapters covers how to get going and how to keep going. Dave Burgess ends by "Finding a Crew" through collaboration and "Finding Treasure" - his thank you for reading this book.
The Awkward Question
Do you want to be great? That is the question in this section. Do you want your classroom to be a place where students are engaged and building a love of learning?
***QUESTION 1: What changes do you think you’ll make to your own lessons or your way of teaching?***
Where do I start?
Burgess acknowledges obstacles to being "great" as:
The fear of failure
- Believing you have to figure it all out before you begin
- Perfectionism
- Lack of focus
- Fear of criticism or ridicule
***QUESTION 2: What would you say is your biggest obstacle? And how do you think you can overcome it?***
Finding a Crew
In the 21st century we have access to a number of means for collaboration and our own professional development – social media, PLCs, departments, colleagues at other schools, additional books, websites, Twitter chats, and so much more. Do you know who your crew is? Who can you lean on for ideas and encouragement? Someone who shares your passion? Think about it. We're all in this together! Find the positive people who can help YOU best the best teacher you can be.
As I summarize the end of this journey, I have two final questions --->
HOW HAS THIS BOOK STUDY MADE YOU A BETTER TEACHER?
AND
HOW WILL YOU SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF THIS BOOK TO OTHERS?
